Responsibilities

The Senior SQL Developer is responsible for production support of all software and integrations developed by the Software Engineering teams, including but not limited to EDI, XML and flat file integrations, managed file transfers, and database integrations, web applications and APIs. The Senior SQL Developer may also be responsible for creating new integrations or making changes to existing integrations in accordance with the engineering teams’ coding standards and best practices.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

 

Database Design and Development

  • Design, develop and maintain relational databases and data warehouses.
  • Create efficient database schemas, tables, indexes, and constraints to support business applications.
  • Implement database objects such as stored procedures, triggers, and functions to automate processes and enforce business rules.
  • Participate in code reviews and commit changes to source control (GitHub).

SQL Query Optimization

  • Performance tune existing SQL objects using all available metrics and tools.
  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, manipulate and analyze large volumes of data.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in SQL Queries and database operations.
  • Tune database configurations and query execution plans for optimal performance.

Data Integration and ETL

  • Design and implement data integration solutions to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into the database.
  • Develop ETL processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and design scalable ETL workflows.

Documentation and Best Practices

  • Document database designs, schemas, and processes to ensure knowledge transfer and maintain system documentation.
  • Adhere to best practices in database development, version control, and change management.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies in SQL development and database management.

Monitoring and Support

    • Proactively monitor SQL Agent Jobs for failures using all available applications and tools.
    • Respond to support requests using Jira Service Management and Jira Cloud. Issues may include but are not restricted to requests for clarification or information, perceived processing problems, actual processing problems, requests for system changes, procedural issues, and access requests.
    • Make suggestions for changes that proactively prevent future support issues.
    • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and project managers to clarify requirement son support requests.
    • Communicate confidently with internal and external customers.
    • Collaborate with cross functional teams to ensure seamless integration processes.
    • Coordinate testing efforts with trading partners and cross functional teams to make sure that all elements of a data integration are as designed.
    • Participate in an on-call rotation for after hours, weekend, and holiday support.
    • Comply with company C-TPAT and TSA security procedures.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 3-5 years of experience.  However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration. 
  • Strong proficiency in SQL programming, including complex query writing, optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with relational database management operations for Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with SQL Server upgrades preferred.
  • Knowledge of data modeling techniques and database design principles.
  • Experience with ETL tools and processes.
  • Familiarity with database administration tasks such as backup, recovery, and security.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex business and/or technical documents.
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and detailed business correspondence.
  • Ability to work with groups of people such as other departments and communicate known concepts.
  • Ability to solve problems with a variety of concrete variables through semi-standardized solutions that require some ingenuity and analysis.
  • Ability to draw inferences and follow prescribed and detailed procedures to solve moderately complex problems.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
